The Royal Life Saving Society Gain ISO 14001 With The Support From Compliant

It is the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK)’s purpose to enhance communities, so everyone can enjoy being in, on and around water, safely; because every life is worth saving. Our work is vital in every city, town, community and home.
RLSS UK has a proud history of helping to reducing the number of lives lost to drowning. Our mission is to be the leader in lifesaving and lifeguarding in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Sharing, our expertise and knowledge with as many people as possible, giving everyone the potential to save lives and enjoy water, safely.

Here, at the RLSS UK, we have an impressive heritage. We have built up years of experience and, we are honoured, to boast a strong force of loyal members and volunteers who work with us to promote water safety and educate in life saving skills. Our roots were established back in 1891 as the Life Saving Society, and, in the early 1900s, with support from the Royal Family, we were granted permission to adopt the ‘Royal’ to our title – a badge that we are still immensely proud of today.

We have used our extensive, world-leading knowledge of water safety and training to develop a comprehensive range of vocational qualifications and a series of awards and education programmes which all have the ultimate aim of preventing drowning and stopping unnecessary loss of life. Our portfolio includes the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) – the premier lifeguard training programme.

Our achievements speak for themselves:

International Drowning Prevention
372,000 People Die from Drowning Around the World Every Year
372,00 people drowning every year means 40 people drown every hour. Drowning is a highly preventable public health issue, and RLSS UK is committed to working with international partners to reduce worldwide drowning.

You can help our efforts to reduce drowning by donating to our International projects or to MOAS (Migrant Offshore Aid Station).

The Royal Life Saving Society – Commonwealth Drowning Prevention is working to eliminate drowning in the Commonwealth. With active Member Branches in 27 Commonwealth Nations, RLSS Commonwealth aims to reduce the incidence of drowning around the world by developing community-based drowning prevention strategies and lifesaving education programmes, and providing advice and education to Governments, NGOs and individuals on the development of water skills.

The Migrant Drowning Crisis
It is estimated by the IOM (International Organization for Migration) that at least 7,927 migrants died or went missing during 2016, with drowning being a significant cause (see live figures for this year here).

Since being established, MOAS (Migrant Offshore Aid Station) has rescued over 30,000 people from the world’s deadliest maritime migration routes. To support MOAS in it’s work to save migrants from drowning.

RLSS UK is sponsoring an African drowning prevention volunteer/worker to attend the World Conference on Drowning Prevention and RLSS Commonwealth Emerging Leaders Programme in October 2017. The Society will also provide ongoing support for their work in Africa. More details available soon.
